Who Is Chaos in NTE?
Chaos is a Lakshana-element S-Rank character and a member of the E.T.D. 6th Platoon in Neverness to Everness. He is the second new limited character introduced in Version 1.1, available on his exclusive banner from June 24 to July 8, 2026 — immediately following Lacrimosa's banner with no gap between them. Chaos brings a powerful Solid-type combat style focused on heavy melee strikes, damage reduction, and sustained battlefield control through his unique defensive-offensive hybrid kit.
What distinguishes Chaos from other Main DPS characters is his exceptional survivability while dealing damage. Unlike glass-cannon DPS characters who require constant protection, Chaos features built-in damage reduction, self-shielding mechanics, and crowd-control capabilities that allow him to maintain offensive pressure even in high-danger scenarios. His playstyle rewards aggressive, in-your-face combat where trading blows is expected and often advantageous.
Chaos's damage profile emphasizes sustained melee DPS with periodic heavy burst windows during his enhanced state. While his burst ceiling may not match characters like Hotori or Nanally, his ability to stay on-field longer without requiring defensive support makes him exceptionally consistent and forgiving for players learning endgame content.
Chaos Skills Overview
Chaos — Lakshana S-Rank Main DPS (Solid)
Skill Upgrade Priority: Basic Attack > Ultimate > Passive 1 & 2 > Skill > Support Skill
- Basic Attack — Anomaly Blade Combo: Up to 5 consecutive heavy melee strikes dealing Lakshana damage. Chaos's basic attacks are slower than average but deal significantly higher damage per hit and feature built-in hyper-armor (resistance to hit-stun) during the later hits of the combo. The final hit of the 5-hit sequence deals bonus damage and generates Anomaly Energy for his Ultimate.
- Skill — Solid Stance: Unyielding Defense: Chaos enters a defensive stance for 3 seconds, reducing incoming damage by 40% and charging his Anomaly Blade. When the stance ends (or is manually canceled), Chaos releases a powerful counter-attack dealing Lakshana damage proportional to the damage absorbed during the stance. This is Chaos's core defensive-offensive mechanic — skilled players intentionally absorb heavy enemy attacks during the stance window to maximize the counter-attack damage.
- Ultimate — Anomaly Overdrive: Chaos enters an enhanced state for 12 seconds, gaining +25% ATK, +20% damage reduction, and converting all basic attacks into enhanced versions with extended range and bonus Lakshana damage. During Overdrive, Chaos cannot be staggered by enemy attacks (full super-armor) and his basic attacks generate double Anomaly Energy. This is Chaos's primary burst window and should be used when full Anomaly Energy is available.
- Support Skill — Anomaly Backup: When Chaos is off-field, his Support Skill periodically deals Lakshana damage to nearby enemies and generates a small shield for the active character. While the damage is modest, the defensive utility helps maintain team survivability during rotations.
Best Arcs for Chaos
A Time Will Come — Best Overall Arc (Signature)
Chaos's signature Arc and best-in-slot for all content. A Time Will Come provides exceptional base ATK, DEF% sub-stat (synergizing with his damage-reduction mechanics), and a powerful effect: when Chaos's HP drops below 50%, he gains +30% ATK and +20% damage reduction for 10 seconds. This effect has a 20-second cooldown and activates automatically, creating "danger windows" where Chaos actually becomes stronger. Since Chaos is designed to trade blows and frequently drops to critical HP ranges, this Arc triggers consistently and dramatically amplifies his performance in difficult content.
Fluff of Ferocity — S-Rank Alternative
A powerful offensive alternative for players who prioritize raw damage over the defensive synergy of A Time Will Come. Fluff of Ferocity provides ATK% sub-stat and CRIT DMG bonuses on consecutive critical hits. Chaos's slower but heavy-hitting attacks naturally benefit from CRIT-focused builds. This Arc is recommended for skilled players who can maintain Chaos's HP above 50% consistently or who run dedicated healers that prevent the danger-state bonuses from activating.
Oraora! — Best A-Rank Arc (F2P)
The optimal free-to-play choice before obtaining S-Rank Arcs. Oraora! provides a stacking Basic Attack damage bonus that compounds well with Chaos's enhanced Overdrive state. The condition requires maintaining consistent attack rhythm, which Chaos's straightforward combo structure facilitates. This Arc is the recommended starting point for players building Chaos without premium Arc investments.
Best Cartridge for Chaos
Crimson Twin Butterflies — Best-in-Slot
Chaos's optimal Cartridge set provides both Lakshana DMG and ATK bonuses — the two stats that directly scale his damage output. Running a full 4-piece set is highly recommended:
- 2-piece bonus: +10% Lakshana DMG unconditionally. All of Chaos's attacks deal Lakshana damage, making this a flat 10% increase across his entire kit.
- 4-piece bonus: When HP is above 50%, gain +15% ATK. When HP drops below 50%, gain +20% damage reduction instead. This perfectly synergizes with Chaos's designed playstyle of trading damage and frequently entering critical HP ranges. At high HP, the ATK bonus accelerates clear speed; at low HP, the damage reduction stacks with his Solid Stance and keeps him alive through dangerous burst windows.
Additionally, Crimson Twin Butterflies has a Type II Module specialization that grants +6% CRIT Rate per Type II Module equipped. With available Type II Module slots, Chaos can gain up to +48% CRIT Rate from this bonus alone, making it straightforward to reach critical rate thresholds.
Shadow Creed — Viable Alternative
If Crimson Twin Butterflies is unavailable, Shadow Creed provides general ATK bonuses on Skill usage and works adequately for Chaos's frequent Skill-rotation playstyle. However, Shadow Creed lacks the defensive synergy that makes Crimson Twin Butterflies uniquely optimal for Chaos's tank-DPS hybrid identity.
How to Play Chaos: Solid Stance Rotation
Chaos's optimal rotation revolves around managing his Solid Stance windows and timing his Ultimate for maximum efficiency:
- Opening — Basic Attack Build-Up: Begin with 3–4 hits of the basic attack combo to generate initial Anomaly Energy and assess enemy attack patterns.
- First Solid Stance: Activate Skill (Solid Stance) as enemies telegraph heavy attacks. Aim to absorb 1–2 significant hits during the 3-second window. The stance provides 40% damage reduction baseline, stacking with Cartridge and other sources.
- Counter-Attack Release: Cancel the stance manually (or let it expire) to release the counter-attack. If A Time Will Come is equipped and HP dropped below 50%, the +30% ATK bonus now applies to this counter-attack.
- Continue Basic Attacks: Resume basic attack combos while building Anomaly Energy toward the Ultimate threshold.
- Anomaly Overdrive Burst: Once full Anomaly Energy is reached, activate Ultimate. The 12-second enhanced state provides +25% ATK, super-armor, and enhanced basic attacks. Spam basic attacks aggressively during this window — the full super-armor means you cannot be interrupted.
- Cycle Reset: After Ultimate expires, return to step 1. The rotation loops continuously, with Ultimate usage every 20–25 seconds depending on energy generation.
Key Tip: Do not panic when Chaos's HP drops below 50%. This is his optimal combat range where A Time Will Come bonuses activate and Crimson Twin Butterflies switches to damage reduction. Play aggressively in this danger zone rather than backing off — Chaos is designed to thrive at critical HP.
Best Team Compositions for Chaos
Chaos · Fadia · Chiz · Adler — Solid Tank-DPS Team (Recommended)
Chaos's highest-performing composition leverages his tanky nature alongside dedicated defensive support. Fadia provides powerful shields that keep Chaos above the critical threshold when necessary, while her Psyche element enables reaction diversity. Chiz serves as a secondary DPS who maintains pressure during Chaos's energy-building phases. Adler contributes off-field Incantation support and additional defensive utility. This team is exceptionally durable and recommended for difficult Anomaly Zone content where survival is the primary challenge.
Chaos · Baicang · Daffodill · Adler — Double Tank-DPS Team
A composition for players who enjoy extremely aggressive, sustain-heavy gameplay. Both Chaos and Baicang feature self-sustain and damage reduction mechanics, allowing them to trade places on-field while maintaining constant pressure. Daffodill provides Chaos synergy and Discord reactions. Adler maintains his defensive role. This team runs without a traditional healer — both DPS characters self-sustain through their kits — making it highly self-sufficient but requiring skilled HP management.
Chaos · Sakiri · Haniel · Edgar — F2P Control Team
A more accessible composition that replaces premium characters with A-Rank alternatives. Sakiri provides enemy grouping to ensure Chaos's melee attacks hit multiple targets. Haniel contributes buffs and reaction support. Edgar provides dedicated healing to keep Chaos healthy if the self-sustain playstyle proves challenging. This team is recommended for players learning Chaos's mechanics or who do not have Fadia or Baicang invested.
Awakening Priority
A1 > A4 > A6 > A2 > A3 > A5
- A1 (Essential): Solid Stance damage reduction increases from 40% to 55%, and counter-attack damage scales with damage absorbed up to +50% bonus. This dramatically improves both survival and burst potential. Highest priority awakening.
- A4 (High Value): Anomaly Overdrive duration extends from 12 seconds to 15 seconds, providing 25% more enhanced uptime per Ultimate activation.
- A6 (Quality of Life): Basic attacks during Overdrive heal Chaos for 2% of damage dealt, providing self-sustain that reduces healer dependency.
- A2/A3/A5 (Situational): Provide incremental damage and utility bonuses. Acquire if resources permit after A1/A4/A6.
Should You Pull Chaos?
Chaos is an exceptional tank-DPS hybrid character with a unique defensive-offensive playstyle that no other character in the current roster replicates. His ability to self-sustain, reduce damage, and maintain offensive pressure at critical HP makes him exceptionally valuable for difficult content where traditional glass-cannon DPS characters struggle to survive.
Pull if: You enjoy aggressive melee combat, want a forgiving DPS who doesn't require babysitting by healers/shielders, or need a solid anchor character for difficult Anomaly Zone content.
Consider skipping if: You already have multiple invested Main DPS characters (Nanally, Hotori, Lacrimosa, Aurelia), prefer ranged playstyles, or are saving strictly for future Version 1.2+ characters and cannot afford to invest in both Version 1.1 banners.
